I think the Chicago Tribune is thinking a little too much into some work of fiction. We can compare just about anything to a charismatic President. Hell, I have met folks who compare Obama to JFK. But that doesn't make it so. At any rate, this is dumb; V was also a mini-series from 20 years ago.

It all comes down to, people need to be informed,and people need to be able to make educated decisions. Caretakers, doctors, and family members need to not think that saying "everything will be alright" in the face of death always fixes everything. Sometimes, it makes things worse, and not just for the patient.I'm not saying that hope should be abandoned when it comes to serious cases. I'm saying that reality needs to play a part in a person's decisions on care that *might* save their life, but definitely *will* prolong their suffering. Since *might happen* happens a lot less often than *definitely will happen*, patients need realistic (but not necessarily cynical) information.!

Wow that logic is horribly retarded. So just because a man only had motive to kill one person he can get off scott free? Okay great I'll think of someone I really want to kill and since I only wanted to kill one person I'll get that over with and I'll get free therapy sessons paid for by the state! Sounds good to me!

In most western countries, the prison system is managed largely as an attempt to rehabilitate offenders (obviously not all prisoners can be rehabilitated though). In the US, it seems (at least from the outside looking in) that it is purely punitive with no real effort to reintegrate offenders as productive members of society.The so-called "war" on drugs is also ridiculously overbearing and contributes to the massive number of people in US prisons per capita. |
