It's exactly the same situation, except the people voted before they died using perfectly legal absentee ballots instead of voting in person. There's nothing corrupt (or partisan) about it..

You are really clueless. The USA wasn't dancing alone. In Iran, the KGB and the CIA were fighting a full scale covert war. The Iranians in the know commented that there was really no difference between the two groups. The CIA thought it had the upper hand with the Shah, but the KGB won the battle in the long run by sequestering the Ayatollah Khomenei until the opportune time. This is why Putin, formerly of the KGB, is such great friends with the current Iranian regime spawned by Khomenei. The only covert actions that have backfired on us are the poorly planned and executed ones which end up being the ones we know about.
