The African nations have a legitimate complaint. Western Europe and North America were the primary benefactors of the age of coal and oil, and the primary cause of global warming. Is it fair that Africa should shoulder an equal measure of the cost of fixing the problem and be restricted from using the same fuels that powered the development of the west for their own development?Obviously this argument can be taken to far. Among other reasons, a development plan based on fuels other than oil and coal is probably a better way to develop now that those technologies are available.But still - not "bums."

I had caltrops when I was in junior high. As far as I know they are legal to own and can be purchased in martial arts catalogs. Owning a tool that could be used illegally is not always a crime by itself. It sounds like his house was searched because he committed an act that was not a crime but was annoying to police. Items that are legal to own but could be used illegally were found and are being used by police to show that he could be guilty of something. I don't think that is how it should work.Think of all of the things in your residence that the government would find "damning" if they were allowed to charge you for everything for which an item COULD be used.!

I'm sorry to burst your philosophical bubble, but coughing in a crowd and NOT covering it is stupid, offensive, risky and passive aggressive behavior.... and spitting in someone's face IS assault and you have a right to defend yourself.And yes, I GET your philosophical statement and for less confrontational/ignorant scenarios, I'd probably agree. I don't think it applies here... People don't have a choice when others around them *choose* to not have courtesy. Seeing this article, I immediately thought of 2005 Korean 'Dog Poop Girl' who refused to clean up her dog's mess in the subway, even when people offered her towels.
